The game was played in Almeiras, Spain. The Real goals were scored by Velasco in the nineteenth minute, Zamarano in the twenty-eighth minute and Nando in the sixty-eighth minute. Matt Clarke was a trialist from Rotherham. Leeds brought on two substitutes in the sixty-fifth minute when Noel Whelan replaced Brian Deane and Kevin Sharp came on for John Pemberton. Real Madrid used five substitutes. Francisco Llorente replacing Martin Vasquez and Jose Luis Morales coming on for Ivan Zamorano at half time, Carlos David Cano came on for goalkeeper Francisco Buyo and Lois Miguel Ramis replaced Fernando Hierro at left back in the sixtieth minute and Alberto Marcos replaced Emileo Butragueno six minutes later.
